I collect images on my computer. I sort them out into neat little folders labeled food, design, film photography, interior, clothes, etc. I started more than a year ago, and have stopped for some time now. Last night I looked through these images and realized that my taste has changed a lot over the past year. I no longer fancy pretty pictures of skinny women and niceties, and quite horrified by the evidence of my bad taste, I deleted some ugly photos of fussy colorful interiors.
But there are some things that I still love. I decide to list them on my old tumblr, where I seem to be a much more appreciative person. I think this marks the time when I’ve decided to start taking photos in Paris. I told Yelin that yesterday I fell in love with this city a little bit after exploring rue des beaux arts. Yelin turned to Antoine and said, now that she’s made a connection with this city, she can start taking photographs! I smiled.
tired surfaces, and a weathered book.
grains of rice, my mixed grain black rice porridge.
mixing butter and jam on my toast.
a splash of color born by nature, a juicy meaty fruit.
a single spot of light, dabbled rainbows in gothic cathedrals created by stained glass windows.
trains, journeys, sleeping on trains and waking up to another city.
darkrooms, photo developers.
memories of high school, the sadness that hits me when I realize that I can never go back even though I may often peek back.
withered flowers, the texture of age.
the beach, where your vision is reduced to a horizontal line.
the quote from Kafka on the Shore:
"The sea is a really nice thing, isn’t it?"
"Yeah it is. Makes you feel calm."
"Why is that?"
"Probably ‘cause it is so big, with nothing on it," Hoshino said, pointing, "You wouldn’t feel so calm if there was a 7-Eleven over there, or a Seiyu department store, would you? Or a pachinko place over there, or a Yoshikawa pawnshop? But as far as the eye can see there’s nothing - which is pretty darn nice."
gazing over the rooftops of a city, little mushroom chimneys growing all over the skyline of Paris.
winter sunshine, shadows of trees, grey buildings, beijing.
